Why don’t we use Lanolin like the big guys?
Lanolin, also called wool wax or wool grease, is a yellow waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals. Typically, this means it comes from sheep. Lanolin is what gives them their waterproof winter coat and protects them from the elements. This is why it’s also used in products that prevent metals from rusting, shoe polish, and barnacle repelents.
Many people assume that lanolin is cruelty free because it comes from the wool of shorn sheep.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. The majority of the times, the sheep have been slaughtered for their meat and the lanolin is a byproduct of that process. The majority of lanolin used in most cosmetics is contaminated with organophosphate pesticides and insecticides.
While lanolin may help make your skin feel smooth, there are much better choices for your lips!
